Switzerland!

Switzerland!

Just like rock climbing, flying off cliffs doesn’t seem to get old, and having to travel to Europe to do it isn’t so bad either . Europeans have giant cliffs coming out of their ears, and no prejudices about mountain sports, so they get a huge thumbs up. And a lot of tourist revenue from [...]

Children of the Sky

Children of the Sky

Flying in Switzerland this September, I had some of the most powerful experiences of my life. I know you’ve all heard it so many times before, but once again, I have to ask: When is the National Park Service going to let go of their persecution and hatred of base jumpers in the United States? [...]

Swiss Air

Swiss Air

I spent the last two weeks in Switzerland, flying my wingsuit off cliffs. Sorry for being a little MIA on my blog. It’s easy to sink deeper and deeper into base, and sometimes hard to take the focus elsewhere. On this trip, I made several visits to the nearby Kandersteg Valley, which neighbors Lauterbrunnen. In [...]

Eiger Birds

Eiger Birds from steph davis on Vimeo. Remember kids, don’t try this in the United States, “land of the free.” It’s illegal to fly from the cliffs in America’s National Parks. Why? I really couldn’t tell you. But the law they use (aggressively) to persecute base jumping, a non-motorized, low-impact sport, is something that was [...]

Pioneers

Pioneers

I got two emails today that made me feel so proud and amazed by my friends, that I can’t resist sharing them. And they made me reflect on pioneers in the sports I most love, climbing and wingsuit flying. Being a climber with a strong sense of history, I can see that wingsuit flight is [...]

Swiss Valley

All I can say is, it’s a good thing in their infinite wisdom that the NPS outlaws this madness in Yosemite. Who knows what would happen if you start letting people fly…. Swiss Valley from steph davis on Vimeo.

A Swiss News Story About My Orphaned BASE Gear

Just found this on the internet today…. An article in a Swiss paper all about base jumping in Switzerland, with brand names and models of some of the gear United Airlines lost for me! With photos too (and funny captions)! Ironic, no? Meanwhile, here in the States, we have this. As I updated in my [...]

Land of the Free

[Audio clip: view full post to listen] In God We Trust, MC Solaar (click on “continue reading” before you click on play) Well, this story is not about the States. It’s good to have aspirations, and voicing them can lead to evolution, but often I think that actions speak louder than words. Freedom exists much [...]

Hellos From Under and Over

Hi Steph, Just thought I would add another email to your many emails from the site. Your philosophy on life is eye opening and just what I needed to read! I live in Australia but I work a job I don’t like, doing things I am not interested in, paying a mortgage that feels like [...]

Why We Love Switzerland

Lauterbrunnen is a beautiful mountain valley, surrounded by two thousand foot limestone walls, and overlooked by the snowy peaks and glaciers of the Eiger and the Jungfrau.
