Climbing Fitness in the Off Season

Hello Steph.
My name is Kassondra. I am from small town Eden, Utah. I love the great outdoors and everything it has to offer. Your writing is truly inspiring. I loved your first book, high infatuation- I read it 3 times and I am still pulling more from it. I really look forward to reading your new one. You are a wonderful role-model and I love your story and how you came to find your purpose. I consider moving to the desert and living out of my car even more after reading your book.
I wanted to ask you how you maintain climbing shape in the off season? (You probably don’t have an off season) Any recommendations? Just gym climbing? Do you lift at all?
Also, will you be doing any trad clinics this winter in Moab? I started on it this summer and really want to know more.
Thanks pushing the limits and paving the road for the rest of us!
Best,
Kassondra

Hi Kassondra,
Thanks for writing 🙂 Winter is the coldest time in Moab, and we get some great days when it’s clear and sunny, but not always. I train by doing a hangboard workout, followed by campusing after several weeks, and then ideally finishing with systems. This is a 2-4 month cycle and I often end up traveling and not getting to finish the whole thing, but I find that whatever I do helps a lot.
Here are posts about the hangboard and campus workouts.
I used to lift weights in the winter, but I have found that doing more finger specific workouts has a more noticeable benefit for me, so I’ve switched to them instead of lifting.
My next climbing clinics are scheduled for spring: April 26-28 for the Indian Creek Clinic and May 4-5 for the Moab Women’s Clinic.
I hope you like Learning to Fly!
Steph
