DIMOSTHENIS-HELLAS(GREECE)

Dear Dimosthenis,
I am half Greek (on my mother’s side–family names of Zaphiriou and Kimpretis).
These amazing pictures make me want to visit Greece even more than before! Meteora is unbelievably beautiful.
I wonder if you can jump from those cliffs too?
:) Steph

Hm…, errr…, I don’t know if Meteora rock is perfect for soloing, rock is not that solid…, but there are some BASE jumps from Alyssos Rock by a Salomon team about 3 years ago. I think this is a part of a Salomon BASE jump video.

The type of rock is unique and quite different from other climbing areas of Greece. The rock is mainly pebbles, stones, gravel and frail sandstone. Hundreds of big and small pebbles are all joined together in an integrated mass creating these pillars, which are as 300 meters high. The main routes are usually cleaned and steady, while one has to be careful to stay on course, to avoid non-stable stones and surprises!

As for base-jumping, with my limited knowledge to the sport I think it is a great place to jump. Bare in mind that it is forbidden to climb to the towers on which Monasteries exist so I guess the same rule will apply for base-jumping as well..
