Inspiration

Hi Steph,
I wanted to drop you an email to let you know what an inspiration you are. I have known your name for years, but only recently read your two books. They were both fantastic. They gave the reader great insight into your personality traits and lifestyle decisions that allowed you to accomplish such great achievements. I enjoyed reading them much more than the typical climbing books which just focus on the facts (who did what) rather than emotions and the mind (what drove them to do it).

Your fan base is diverse. I am a 37 year-old married woman who only climbs with a rope, but I got the chance to discuss your book with a young 20-something male soloist this summer as we waited for storms to clear out while climbing in the high sierras. Your message is something that inspires and resonates with many people.

I hope you continue to write. Many famous climbers fall out of the limelight. I wish more would stay vocal and continue to show the way for the rest of us. I want to climb until I am at least 70 so I am hoping some famous climbers stay in the limelight even as their hair turns grey and show the rest of us what is possible at 40, 50, 60 and beyond!
Best,
Jessica

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for writing! I agree with you, I am incredibly inspired by my climbing friends who are in the generations ahead of me, because they show me that it’s possible to be psyched and be climbing harder as they continue the journey on through life. So unless something unexpected happens, I’m not going anywhere either 🙂
I appreciate the encouragement,
Steph
